Greek food is one of our favorite types of cuisines, so we love finding new Greek restaurants. Village Taverna Greek Grill is located in Greenwich Village just northeast of Washington Square Park. The atmosphere is light and airy with light wood floors and tables, white walls and chairs, a light stone work accent wall, and blue glass pieces accenting the room. We visited during a week day at 11:30, and when we arrived we were the only guests; however, by the time we left the restaurant was filling up, so luckily we beat the rush. In NYC (as well as Atlanta) we have noticed a common trend that if you come around 11:30 you won’t have to worry about a wait, and by the time you order and the food comes, you are usually eating around noon anyway, so we typically visit prior to the lunch rush. Per usual at Greek restaurants, each visitor is served pita and hummus as an appetizer, and it was fantastic! Additionally, the pita platter came with olives that were quite tasty. We ordered a gyro platter and a chicken souvlaki plate and were quite impressed! The food was delectable! Everything was incredibly flavorful. Also the portions were so large we got a second meal from it (which as graduate students is always nice). The service was decent, and we both enjoyed the atmosphere, experience, and the delicious food.
