In between Atlanta and Augusta, GA along the highway is A.H. Stephens Historic Park in Crawfordville, GA. The park offers a wide variety of activities making it a great park to visit for the weekend. Since the park is in a small town it seemed the majority of visitors use the park as local recreation area. A.H. Stephens offers visitors the opportunity for hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddling. The park also has a Civil War museum, playground, volleyball court, horseshoes pits, cottages, lakes, shelters, and horse stables. Finally, the park contains the home of A.H. Stephens that visitors can go on a tour of. When we visited we went on the house tour, which is in a beautifully preserved home. A.H. Stephens was the Vice President of the Confederacy and friends with Robert Toombs, who lived only a few towns over. The house tour provides a detailed explanation of what life was like at that time and Georgian history. The house also has an incredible library that is full of hundreds of books! We both found the tour informative and loved the incredibly preserved pieces of art and furniture.
