Soccer has grown in popularity in the United States by leaps and bounds the last several years and, as a result, Major League Soccer has expanded at a rapid pace. The latest team to join (along with Minnesota United FC) is Atlanta United FC, which started play this season. There has been palpable excitement throughout Atlanta about the new hometown team, and it isn’t hard to spot an Atlanta United flag on a nearby house or a red and black jersey on a passerby. Until their permanent home in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium is ready, Atlanta United is playing their home games at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium. We recently attended an Atlanta United game and found the experience an enjoyable one. Tickets are, unfortunately, a bit pricey, so we sat in the upper deck of Bobby Dodd Stadium. Our seats still afforded us good views of the action, however, and expansive vistas of the city. The game itself was fun to watch, and we were treated to several goals during the game, which made for scintillating viewing and a raucous atmosphere, although the excitement of the crowd rose and ebbed with the action of the game. We were happy to have gone to a game and recommend a match for everyone, although frequent trips might be difficult given the cost of attending.
