Cherry Street Brewing is located northeast of Atlanta in Cumming and is just beginning to distribute their beer around the Atlanta area. This beer has sounded interesting, so we were excited to visit Cherry Street’s tasting room. The tasting room was located within a larger shopping complex with various shops and restaurants, including Rick Tanner’s Grille and Brewery next door to Cherry Street. Rick Tanner’s has an agreement with Cherry Street so that patrons of Cherry Street can order food from Rick Tanner’s and have it delivered to them at Cherry Street. We ordered some chips and queso from Rick Tanner’s and found it a great snack for our beer tasting.
Cherry Street’s tasting room is broken up into two halves. One side is brightly lit and contains a large bar and a few small tables, while the other side is dim with more seating and dozens of barrels that the brewery uses. Both sides of the tasting room were plain, but pleasant and warm. The most impressive aspect of the brewery was its massive tap list. It took us several minutes to go over the several pages of beer listings-there were a number of traditional styles, specialty beers, and barrel aged offerings. We finally narrowed down our tasting selections to a few. We enjoyed our tasting and found a few that we thought were especially tasty, such as the They’ve Gone to Plaid barrel aged Scotch ale and the Razzle My Weisse Berliner weisse with berries. Cherry Street is worth the long drive from Atlanta if you’d like a relaxing afternoon with some good beer.
