Moving on through the Georgia Wine Trail we have come to our absolute favorite Georgia winery-Frogtown Cellars! Each winery has its own character and wine that matches different personalities, but for us, Frogtown Cellars is a knockout for its delicious, high quality wine. Frogtown, like other North Georgia wineries, is located in Dahlonega, GA right next to Three Sisters Vineyard & Winery, making it perfect for those who want to visit several wineries. There are two tasting room locations as well in Hahira and Helen, GA. We visited the Dahlonega location, and the winery is set among the Georgia mountains, with a nice view of the mountains and a lake creating a picturesque view to enjoy a glass of wine.
Frogtown is amazing not for its superb views though; it is phenomenal due to its vast selection of impeccable wines. The winery boasts a panoply of wines, enough for them to offer three different tastings of several wines each depending on your tastes. Since we enjoy red wines, we chose the red wine tasting, which featured traditional varietals such as cabernet sauvignon and merlot, and lesser known varietals such as sangiovese. Each wine we sampled was excellent, so much so that we could have bought a bottle of just about any wine that we tried. We settled on the sangiovese, since it’s a type of wine that’s harder to find, and it was just as good when we drank it as we remembered.
Since Frogtown is such a well-known winery, go during a weekday if you can-the crowds on the Saturday afternoon we went were a bit overwhelming, and we sometimes had to wait awhile before we got our next sample.
We love Frogtown so much that we plan on making another trip again soon and purchasing a couple bottles so that we can savor the wine even after our visit. If you decide to take a trip to north Georgia wine country, make sure to put Frogtown at the top of your list of wineries to visit.
