In honor of the first official week of summer, we will spend this week highlighting five different Atlanta attractions to head out to and explore! Whether you are visiting Atlanta or you call Atlanta home, you can always get out and play tourist.
Day 1: Fernbank Museum of Natural History
There are two Fernbank’s in Atlanta, but today we are focusing on the Museum of Natural History. The other Fernbank is not too drastically different as it is the Science Center. In St. Louis, the Museum of Natural History had actually combined with the “Science Center” to create the St. Louis Science Center that exists today. Atlanta has two separate museums though and the larger, more well-known museum is the Fernbank Museum of Natural History. The Fernbank Museum of Natural History, unlike the Science Center, costs money to get in, but has a larger variety of exhibits. There are both permanent and temporary exhibits, as well as an IMAX theater, so even if you have already visited, you can come back for something new. The permanent exhibits include exhibits on dinosaurs, geology, natural history, cultural groups, and more for visitors to explore, and the temporary exhibits change every few months bringing a new array of ways to learn more about the world around us. Both temporary and permanent exhibits are interactive, making for a fun day of exploring! The Fernbank Museum of Natural History is a great summer activity to avoid the summer heat and learn more about the natural wonders and inhabitants of the earth.
