Twain’s Billiards & Tap is a brewpub located in the heart of downtown Decatur. As the name suggests, Twain’s has a billiard hall and their own beer, but Twain’s also has a restaurant and a large drink list in addition to their taplist. The restaurant is in the front of the building and includes eclectic furniture and decor. There is a large fish tank that greets the eye when one walks in and pages upon pages of the works of Mark Twain displayed on the walls. In addition to the literary aspect of the walls, there are also pieces of art produced by local artists and some other, more kitschy pieces.  The seating area was large, but individual tables and booths were quite spread apart, providing ample room for patrons. One highlight of the seating arrangement was the large reclaimed wood table tops that provided elevated seating for those who like sitting on stools. Beyond the restaurant are two large rooms devoted to billiards.

Twain’s is one of several restaurants in the Atlanta area that brews its own beer, and they had a plethora of options that featured both standard and seasonal varieties. We decided to get a tasting flight with five beers, which featured three different IPAs (an oatmeal IPA, a double IPA, and the same double IPA with mango), a gingerbread brown ale, and a coffee stout. Each of the beers was very good, and it was actually difficult to pick a favorite since we enjoyed all of them. For those who enjoy IPAs, however, we highly recommend the Obscurity Oatmeal IPA and the mango double IPA.

While we did not eat a meal at Twain’s, we decided to get an appetizer and split an order of chicken tenders with fries. The chicken tenders were delightfully crispy and accompanied by a unique and delicious honey mustard sauce, while the fries were perfectly seasoned, so if our appetizer was any indication, Twain’s food is well worth a try.

Twain’s had an interesting vibe with its rather eclectic decor, but their food and beer were delicious and well worth a trip to Decatur to try.
