Slightly east of Athens, Ga is a state park with nice trails, a scenic waterfall, and a beautiful covered bridge-Watson Mill Bridge State Park. The state park is located in a small Georgia town, Comer, and is a great park to get out and experience the outdoors. Watson Mill Bridge State Park offers hiking, boat rentals, horse back riding, fishing, playgrounds, picnic tables, and the covered bridge the park is known for.
Once you enter the state park you will immediately cross over the covered bridge that lies right before the waterfall. The covered bridge is stunning and provided a unique experience uncommon outside of New England. Next to the waterfall are boat rentals, and on the other side of the waterfall are several picnic benches and a playground that is great for families. We enjoyed our picnic lunch alongside the covered bridge and lake before it slowly cascaded down. We hiked along two trails, Beaver Creek Trail and Ridge Loop Trail, as well as the walking trail along the creek. The hikes were slightly hilly, with a soft trail, and full of fascinating fungi. We both enjoyed the hike as it was a nice, easier hike along a delightful trail that was peaceful due to a lack of other visitors. The trails had not been hiked on much as we were sure we walked through at least 50 spider webs, so be prepared, but enjoy the serenity. Overall, we both found Watson Mill Bridge State Park to be one of the best Georgia State Parks and it made for an especially pleasant afternoon.
