Decatur, GA is known among Atlantans as a great hang out with unique shops, a variety of delicious cuisines, and a communal feel that differs from the rest of Atlanta. The city of Decatur seems to harbor deeper, more sentimental feelings for their community than other areas of Atlanta it seems. Typically Atlantans are transplants from around the country who enjoy their suburban homes and act like they don’t mind their hour and a half long commute each day. Decatur is all about local people hanging out in their city and being a part of the community.
Downtown Decatur’s communal pride is reflective in the various activities they put on, including a concert series. The concerts take place every Saturday in the month of May and September (to ensure you avoid the heat, to some degree) at 7 pm. Each week they have different musicians play in the gazebo, which is located right in the center of Decatur’s town square. The event is free to the public. You can make a night out of the concerts and either sit on the grass or bring your own lawn chair/blanket with snacks and drinks for a full evening worth of activities. The Decatur concert series is a great way to spend the evening either with friends, family, or a date!
