For Margaret’s birthday we wanted to do something special. Since Margaret loves pizza, we decided to try one of the best pizzerias in Atlanta, Varasano’s Pizza. Varasano’s has won numerous awards and recognition for their pizzas, including being voted the best pizza in Atlanta. Since it was a special occasion, we thought Varasano’s would be a perfect place to go. Varasano’s is located in Buckhead, although there is a second location in Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Despite its notoriety, the pizzeria was not too busy and very reasonably priced. The pizzeria is located along Peachtree Rd., but the pizzeria thankfully offers free parking behind the building. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with modern decor, but we decided to enjoy the lovely spring weather and the quaint patio the pizzeria offers. The service was good, and, after asking a few questions, we settled on two pizzas. The first was the house special, Nana’s, which was topped with with herbs, mozzarella, and sauce. The second pizza was the Salumi, which had several types of Italian meats, mozzarella, olives, and red sauce. Both pizzas displayed Varasano’s style-thin, sourdough crusts wood-fired until slightly charred. Both pizzas were excellent. The fresh mozzarella was superb and the sauce delightful, with the crust displaying the craftsmanship for which Varasano’s is known. By way of comparison, we both agreed that the pizzas were most similar to those found in Italy. We departed Varasano’s very full and quite satisfied, and we were also happy that we didn’t have to empty our wallets to try the best pizza in Atlanta. We highly recommend Varasano’s.
